Commenting on Jacob Coxon leaving Anthropic

I was on Radio-Canada’s Première Chaîne twice to discuss Jacob Coxon’s comments upon leaving Anthropic. First I joined Madeleine Marie Villeneuve, host of Phare Ouest on Radio-Canada’s Première Chaîne (British Columbia) and later I was on Ça Nous Regarde with Madeleine Blais-Morin. Coxon, an AI researcher who worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI, publicly shared his resignation over deep concerns regarding the rapid, competitive pace of advanced AI development.

During these segments, we analyzed his warning that industry insiders privately fear losing control of self-improving models within the decade. We also weighed these existential risks against immediate societal impacts, such as the cybersecurity risks of AI and its impact on the job market. We also touched on the uncomfortable but pressing philosophical questions raised by the progress of AI.
